Mon. Apr 23, 3049: One of the first to receive a ZEU-9S, Colonel Leonidas Brannock of the Fourth Skye Guards wasted no time in custom mods.

Double news day! I just finished the first one, now on to the next. The only question is, do I talk about this great variant of the Zeus, Leonidas Brannock, or the Fourth Skye Guards?

The Zeus was first built by the Lyran Commonwealth in 2787, as the First Succession War began. [2] Through the course of the Succession Wars, the Zeus had a long and storied history within the Commonwealth, becoming a well-respected assault BattleMech. In its original production form, the Zeus was designed to keep an enemy at arm's reach, although it could engage opponents at closer ranges if necessary. The Zeus has also seen newer upgrades using recovered and experimental technologies. Since it was the Lyran Commonwealth's pride and joy, it was usually one of the first 'Mechs to receive upgraded equipment.

Also it should be noted that although Brannock is getting a ZEU-9S, he expends a considerable amount of money customizing it. He swaps the LRM-15 for an Artemis IV enhanced LRM-20 and a Gauss Rifle for the PPC (each with two tons of ammunition). The rest of the weapons remain the same. It also carries an extra heat sink, bringing the total to twelve. To make room for this equipment Leonidas uses a XL Engine, which drives the cost of replacing his 'Mech into the stratosphere.

Gauss rifle for the PPC? Hey, that's against the MechLab rules! XD

PPC with ammo? Something wrong here...

He swaps his PPC with no ammunition out for a Gauss Rifle with two tons of ammunition.

Although Gunmage's comment shows a bad reading comprehension failure, he does bring up a valid point about the gauss rifle for the PPC. Is this a hint about possible "direct fire" hard points? Or just an extreme example of a character with connections getting customization that us, the "average joe" would not be able to do?

I believe it is the latter. The devs seem to have been pretty clear on what types of hardpoints they are including.

From what I'm comprehending, you can only customize your 'Mech in ways that won't alter their appearance, on a 1-1 swap. Meaning

Zeus ZEU-9SR

This variant of the Zeus, because it replaces a missile system with a particle cannon, won't be a viable customization in the game.

Indeed. Leonidas Brannock seems to have served on the Duke of Skye's staff before the Skye Rebellion, but this could be referring to the 4th or 10th Skye Rangers, which were the source for most of the 4th Skye Guard's strength during the Glengarry campaign.

Actually, they forgot to mention that he also swapped the chassis out for an Atlas <_<

Seriously, why would a Colonel go to war in Zeus BattleArmor?

Not only that but this is not TRO 3025, but TRO 3050. Are the clans invading sooner than we think for?

Why? The tech is allready in existence, the Inner Sphere didn't need the Clans to accidently stumble upon it.
